Microdermabrasion is a noninvasive form of exfoliation and mild skin resurfacing that removes the dead skin cells from the Stratum Corneum, the outer most layer of the skin. The Stratum Corneum is the layer of the skin affected by fine lines, wrinkles, blemishes, acne, and scaring. The concentrated microdermabrasion treatment exfoliates this skin layer to break apart these common imperfections. This then triggers the body’s healing mechanisms, causing the removed dead skin cells to be rapidly replaced with healthy, new ones.
The Benefits
Microdermabrasion provides several important benefits for the skin. The treatment smoothes away dull and rough skin texture, and it softens fine lines, wrinkles, burn scars, and acne scars. The treatment also improves the skin’s tone by fading uneven pigmentation, sun damage, age spots, and skin blemishes. In addition, microdermabrasion, which combines the power of a vacuum suction with exfoliation, reduces the formation of acne. The vacuum achieves this by clearing out clogged pores and releasing trapped dirt and oil. This leaves skin more clear, vibrant, and beautiful.
AHA – paulas choice
Exfoliate dry layers and reveal beautifully smooth, healthy skin with this state-of-the-art, lightweight gel. Ideal for all skin types, but works especially well on sun-damaged skin.
8% glycolic acid leaves skin smooth and glowing
Lightweight gel formula contains soothing anti-irritants
pH of 3.5 provides optimal exfoliation
Sunburn Alert: This product contains an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that may increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun and particularly the possibility of sunburn. Use a sunscreen, wear protective clothing, and limit sun exposure while using this product and for a week afterwards.
BHA – paulas choice
Blemish Prone Skin
Silky, toner-like liquid leaves skin refreshed, soothed, and clarified
Quickly unclogs pores to clear stubborn acne and blackheads
Exfoliates skin and dramatically decreases redness for glowing, even-toned results
Ongoing use guarantees stubborn blemishes won’t be a problem
Makes the inflammation and redness from acne a distant memory
Kills acne-causing bacteria
effective pH range of 3.2-3.6
Contains 2% Salicylic Acid
PLEASE NOTE: Those allergic to aspirin (acetylsalicylate) should not use products containing salicylic acid (Beta Hydroxy Acid, or BHA).
Katy Perry apparently loves BHA products (she was the spokes person for proactiv) which is an anti acne system featuring the use of BHA).
Retinol
Works immediately and long term to improve multiple signs of aging
Unique blend of highly stabilized retinol, the gold standard dermatologists agree reduces wrinkles, as well as potent antioxidants to help repair and heal skin.
Stimulates healthy collagen production for firmer skin
Improves skin tone and texture so you’ll see a smooth, radiant glow
Can be worn under or over moisturizer, underneath sunscreen, and some foundations
Proven anti-irritants reduce redness and soothe sensitive skin
Helps fade red marks from past breakouts
Enhances makeup application by making skin’s surface extremely smooth

UREA
Urea in skin-care products has two chief benefits: it’s a very good moisturizing agent for dry skin and, in higher concentrations, it can be an exfoliant. In order to function as an exfoliant, the concentration of urea needs to be above 10%, with some research indicating at least 20% is needed. Amounts between 5–10% are considered best for dry skin because you get the ingredient’s moisturizing benefit with minimal risk of barrier (skin surface) disruption that can make dryness or sensitivity worse. With ongoing use, moisturizers that contain 3–10% urea can reduce water loss from skin and help rebuild its barrier function.
Despite its effectiveness, urea isn’t found in many “mainstream” moisturizers. We suspect the reason has to do with its less-than-elegant feel on skin. In amounts needed for dry skin (and definitely for amounts needed to prompt exfoliation) urea has a somewhat sticky, tacky texture that lingers on skin. For this reason many people who use moisturizers with higher amounts of urea prefer to only apply them at night.
