The European Commission has also granted a marketing authorization to Intrinsa throughout the European Union.

How does Intrinsa work?

After removal of the ovaries, testosterone levels drop to half in menopausal women compared to before the operation. Decrease in testosterone is associated with low sexual desire, reduced sexual thoughts, and reduced sexual arousal.

Intrinsa supplies testosterone on a constant basis to the body and reverses all the effects caused by low testosterone levels.

Who can take Intrinsa?

Women should take Intrinsa treatment only if they are, below 60 years of age; have low sexual desire which is a cause of concern or distress; have both the ovaries removed; have hysterectomy and consequently womb removed; and are receiving estrogen therapy.

Women with the following conditions should not take Intrinsa patches:

• Allergy (hypersensitive) to testosterone or any other ingredients of Intrinsa
• Breast cancer or any other cancer caused or stimulated by the female hormone estrogen, also known as ‘estrogen-dependent’ cancers
• Any other medical conditions that doctor may consider not appropriate for the use of estrogen and/or testosterone
• History of heart, liver or kidney disease
• Diabetes

Women with a history of excessive adult acne, body or facial hair, hair loss, enlargement of the clitoris, voice deepening or hoarseness, should take special care when they take Intrinsa for FSD treatment.

Intrinsa is not meant for use in men, children and adolescents.

Side effects of Intrinsa

The following side effects of Intrinsa may occur very commonly (in more than one out of 10 patients) at the site of the skin where Intrinsa patch is applied.

• rash
• irritation
• itching
• redness

The following side effects of Intrinsa may occur but most of them are mild in nature and reversible in nature:

• increase in the amount of hair on the chin or upper lip
• hair loss
• acne
• migraine
• insomnia/inability to sleep properly
• voice deepening or hoarseness
• breast pain
• weight gain

If you experience any side effects on taking Intrinsa, seek immediate medical condition.

Intrinsa treatment may last for a year. You might experience positive effects in couple of months only. However, if you do not observe any improvement in 3-6 months your doctor may advice you to stop the treatment.

How to use Intrinsa for FSD treatment?

Intrinsa patches should be replaced two times a week i.e. if you start Intrinsa treatment on Monday, the next application should be on Thursday the same week. In any case, follow your doctor’s instructions carefully for female sexual dysfunction.

How to Take Adenosine

Take Adenosine exactly as prescribed by health care provider. Adenosine is generally available in market in the form of Injection 3 mg/mL . Drug may produce short-lasting heart block. Patients in whom high-level heart block (eg, third-degree) develops after one dose of Adenosine should not receive repeat doses.

Dosage Instructions for Adenosine Drug

Conversion to sinus rhythm of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (PSVT), including that associated with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome.

Contraindications for Adenosine Drug

Second- or third-degree AV block or sick sinus syndrome (except in patients with functioning artificial pacemaker); atrial flutter; atrial fibrillation; ventricular tachycardia.

Interactions of Adenosine with other drugs

Caffeine, theophylline: Antagonize effects of adenosine; larger doses of adenosine may be needed.

Carbamazepine: May produce higher degrees of heart block.

Dipyridamole: Potentiates effects of adenosine; smaller doses may be adequate.

What are the Side Effects of Adenosine -

Like other medicines, Adenosine can cause side effects. Some of the more common side effects of Adenosine include

* Facial flushing; headache; chest pain; hypotension.

* Lightheadedness, dizziness, tingling in arms; numbness.

* Nausea.

* Dyspnea; shortness of breath; chest pressure.

Warnings and precautions before taking Adenosine :

* Inform patient before using Adenosine to report the following symptoms to health care provider: facial flushing, headache, shortness of breath, chest pressure, lightheadedness, dizziness, tingling in arms, numbness or nausea.

* The safety and efficay of Adenosine medicine have not been studied in children and adolescents.

* Warn patient to avoid unnecessary exposure to sun and sun lamps while using this medication. Advise patient to use sunscreens and protective clothing over treated areas when exposure cannot be avoided.

* Advise women before using Adenosine to inform health care provider if pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding while taking Adenosine. Insulin is recommended to maintain blood glucose levels during pregnancy. Prolonged severe neonatal hypoglycemia can occur if sulfonylureas are administered at time of delivery.

What if Overdose of Adenosine ?

If you think you or anyone else taken overdose of Adenosine , immediately telephone your doctor or contact your local or regional Poisons Information Centre Seek medical attention immediately. You may need urgent medical attention. Erythema; scaling; dryness; pruritus, skin discomfort, burning, stinging, and irritation; sunburn; acne flares are may be the overdose symptoms of Adenosine.

What if Missed Dose of Adenosine ?

If you miss a dose of Adenosine medicine and you remember within an hour or so, take the dose immediately. If you do not remember until later, skip the dose you missed and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double doses.

Storage Conditions for Adenosine :

Store Adenosine at room temperature. Do not refrigerate Adenosine because crystallization may occur. If crystallization has occurred, dissolve crystals by warming to room temperature.
